I&M Burbidge Capital Limited is a Corporate Finance Advisory firm, part of the I&M Group PLC, creating long-term advisory relationships & solutions across Sub-Saharan Africa with a specific focus on the East African region.
I&M Burbidge Capital specialises in advising businesses in the region on significant capital raising through IPOs, private equity, debt and Mergers & Acquisition transactions and mainly focus on mid & large sized companies with typical transaction size of $5 million – $300 million.
Founded in Nairobi in 2010 by Edward Burbidge as Burbidge Capital Limited, the company has since extended its reach to other parts of Sub-Saharan Africa as well as set up ties with partner investment banks in Africa, Europe & Asia.

In 2012, Burbidge Capital Limited set up a subsidiary in Uganda.

In 2016, I&M Group PLC, acquired 65% shareholding in Burbidge Capital Group. Following this acquisition, Burbidge Capital is now a member of the I&M Group and was renamed I&M Burbidge Capital, shortly after the acquisition.

I&M Burbidge Capital Limited is a part of the I&M Group which comprises of its banking entities in Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda. I&M Group is a leader in the financial services industry in East Africa with a significant presence in the banking, insurance, manufacturing and real estate sectors.
Listed on the NSE with a market capitalization of c. USD 500 million, it is regulated by the Capital Markets Authority as well as by the Central Bank of Kenya as a a non-operating holding company.l

Dr. William Kalema
Chairman
Dr. William Kalema has 20 years’ experience as a business consultant and is currently Country Managing Director in Uganda for BDO East Africa.
Among other roles he is of Chairman of Interswitch East Africa and African Agricultural Capital, and a Director of Multichoice Uganda. He is a Trustee of Shell Foundation and of the Investment Climate Facility for Africa.
He is a former Chairman of DFCU Bank in Uganda and former Chairman of Uganda Breweries. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering from Cambridge University and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from California Institute of Technology.
He previously worked in research and business development roles in the du Pont Company in USA where he retired as a Research Associate.
Edward Burbidge
Director
Edward founded Burbidge Capital (now I&M Burbidge Capital) in September 2010 and has run the businesses in Kenya and Uganda as Chief Executive Officer since then. Edward has led the execution of 50 Mergers and Acquisitions, Private Equity, Mezzanine, Debt and Capital Markets transactions in Eastern Africa.

Edward previously worked in the City of London for over 10 years, initially as a fund manager with Deutsche Bank Tilney Private Wealth and later as an investment banker with Arbuthnot Banking Group Plc, working with a number of corporate clients in developing markets. Edward is a CFA Charterholder.

Edward was formerly a member of President Kenyatta’s Taskforce for Parastatal Reforms and a member of the Nairobi Securities Exchange’s Board Finance Committee.
Edward sits on the Red Cross Nairobi’s Resource Mobilization Board Committee and is a Goodwill Ambassador for Childline Kenya.

Jason Katusiime​
Corporate Finance Associate
Jason currently serves as an Associate at I&M Burbidge Capital (Uganda) Limited . As part of the team, he has assisted in valuations along with structuring & execution of private capital market transactions in multiple sectors including renewable energy, financial services, construction and agriculture.

Jason holds a Bachelor of Science in International Business Administration from United States International University-Africa.
Susan Akumu​
Senior Corporate Finance Analyst
Susan is a senior analyst at I&M Burbidge Capital and has been a part of the team that has successfully executed transactions in the financial services, manufacturing, Hospitality, Agribusiness, and FMCG sectors across East Africa.
Susan holds a MSc Finance with specialty in Corporate Finance, Investments & Securities from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom. She also holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Accounting and Financial Management from Kyambogo University, Uganda. She is also a certified Financial Modelling and Valuation Analyst.
